If I only sign up for one, which one and why?

No one signs up for prime for video. They sign up for Amazon and prime video is free.

Netflix has better programming

For me it would be the opposite. I would sign up for video and side bonus I'd get Amazon prime benefits.

I thought Prime might have a greater variety of options, more classics, and it would be worth the few extra dollars per month.

I'm only signing up for a few months in anticipation of spending lots of time resting.

If you like classic movies, then MAX might be a better option because they have the Turner Classic Movies library as well as HBO

Amazon as a video service is not as good as others.

Also if you don't mind ads, Netflix now has a relatively inexpensive plan that has ads - I think it is $7.00 per month
