Hi I recently graduated with my Masters in Speech but didn't start my Clinical Fellowship yet. I don't really want to be a speech therapist and realized that half way through college but wanted to finish what I started. Any ideas for alternative jobs I can use my Masters and pays well? I don't want to be a teacher.

audiologist. It builds on your schooling that you already did.
reading specialist
other school based professions possibly administrative related.
Schooling might not directly affect you but it looks good to have a masters degree under your belt.

Would you be interested in teaching reading? Theres an amazing dyslexia clinic where I live that was founded by a SLP. My son in his yeshiva actually had the school slp as his reading group teacher. She worked with the weakest boys and he made the most progress with her.

Try working in a few different settings before you give up.

I would be interested in that! I just don't know if anyone would hire me if I didn't finish my clinical fellowship. Sounds very interesting though

I strongly recommend completing the clinical fellowship so you can get your CCC and your state license. That way, you always have the option of working as a speech therapist if you want. Even if you don't love the field (and believe me, I dont) let's say one day you need to bring in some extra income, you want to have the option of doing some sessions even if it's not your main job.
If you don't do your CFY you will never be able to work as a speech therapist

Finish your fellowship, and then take a course in teaching reading.

I guess you are right. I just can't imagine doing it for a few more years when I dread it so much.

I totally get you, I've been doing this 7 years and I hate every minute.
But it's still worthwhile to finish the fellowship and get your credentials. It shouldn't take a few years. Most people do it in 2.

I really enjoy the sciences. I taught for a few years and was a case manager for people with disabilities for a few years so I thought Speech would be a good combination of everything. Part of my problem is that my toddler got diagnosed with a medical condition while I was in school so it's hard to do anything one on one with a student when I constantly need to be texting his nurse all day. I'm now working as a case manager just want to make more money considering how much plans I took out for Speech.

Why did you go into the field?
What would you like to do? What is your passion?
What do you hate about speech? Is it possible that you are just overwhelmed?
In every field there are things to love and not love. Can you focus your career on an aspect you love?
TBH, I love the population I work with. I don’t think it would make any significant difference what technical capacity I work with them in.
