Because round is a more versatile shape for what the majority of what people cook in a Dutch Oven.

Most people do not bake bread in a Dutch Oven - they either bake in a standard oblong bread pan OR they make a free form loaf of some kind and cook on a sheet although they do make specialized shapes for breads like baguette pans for example.

I make loaf shaped sourdough using loaf shaped pans… They don’t have covers but it works fine without.

so dutch oven is not what all bakeries use to bake bread? I thought that is the way to get evenly and successful
professional bake.

can anyone give me tips?

my bread comes out crusty on top but not done inside. bake for 40 min on 220f.

do you put water inside the oven?

do you lower the temperature?

cover with a foil?

convection oven or conventional is best?

Do you mean 220 Celsius or Fahrenheit?
220 F wouldn't be hot enough.

Asides from that, how big/heavy is your bread? The bigger, the longer the baking time.
Do you make sure your oven is completely heated up to target temperature before putting the bread in?

I bake sourdough bread and yeast challot in lidless glass forms and it works fine for me in both cases.

oh I made a mistake. its 220 c.

sure the oven is well preheated.

do you keep the oven temperature the same all through baking?

do you put a pan of water to create steam?

is it a conventional or convection oven?

A Dutch oven is not meant for baked goods, though it can be used that way. It's meant for high-heat stovetop cooking of things like meat and stews. It's nothing more than a heavy-duty pot that holds heat well and has a heavy lid that [slow people] the loss of water. It can be round or oval, oval being a better shape for cooking whole birds.

Dutch ovens, like other stovetop pots, are not made oblong because such a shape doesn't lend itself to stirring the contents, and doesn't evenly distribute heat from the burner.

You don't need a heavy pot to bake bread. An inexpensive aluminum or tinned steel loaf pan is fine. If you want the oval shape, buy oval loaf pan.

Ugh, this censor is out of hand. The word яetard means "to slow down." My post looks normal on my device and then magically changes яetard to "slow people." Yeesh.

I make sourdough bread in a cast iron pot. Rectangular to fit oblong.
Baked on 260 c preheated closed for 20 minutes, then open for 10-15 minutes on 240c

But any other bread I bake very differently, hence the question of what kind of bread you’re looking to bake.
Challah I bake on 190c in loaf pans
Bagels 200c on a cookie sheet
Sandwich bread, I bake in Pullman loaf pans on 180

So really, it depends what you’re looking to bake.
