Infestation is generally on the inside of the mushroom. I ppel them when I eat them raw and up put in a salad as they look whiter.

If I use it for a recipe I just wash but if I am eating it raw, I peel it because I don't like the chewiness of the peel

It’s not a peel, the brown on the cap is peelable though.

The inside meaning the underside, or the underside of the peel meaning on the cap?

I think she means in the gills — the bottom part of the cap that looks like a lot of tightly spaced louvers.

Yes I always peel them. They are so dirty and this is what my mother did.

I started peeling them instead of washing them so they don’t get water logged. They have a much better texture even when you’re cooking them if you don’t wash them.
I crack off the stem & peel the cap.
