Not yet. I'm on healthshare and they won't cover it. The cost for me to pay for it is $6,500.

That's unfortunately not insurance. 'Normal insurance' as you called it would cover a stim test and growth hormones although it's usually a fight. Of course there's a copay but there are copay cards for people with insurance.

Because it doesn't directly test Growth Hormones. If you didn't do a stim test and you are concerned, you should do one.

they adamantly refuse to give it to me,

if its lowish normal can there be a deficiency?

Why don't/ didn't you go to an endocrinologist? Also in general I've had doctors who didn't want to work with my ideas and I switched to ones that were on the same page as me. You don't have to stay with a doctor that doesn't take your concerns seriously.

the gh test was taken at 5 in the aft and it was 0.5 ug/l and her igf-1 was 20 nmol/l.

For the person who asked about a boy growing once he has facial hair, the endo would look at a bone age to determine how close his growth plates are to closing. My kids' endo likes to look at the bone age x-ray herself, since she doesn't always agree with the way the radiologist reads it.

Unfortunately, the bone age showed that the plates are basically closed.

Agree that paying for GH out of pocket is impossible, However, insurance may cover GH without GH deficiency if predicted adult height is very short (diagnosis is called idiopathic short stature). But you/your endo's office may need to fight for it, file appeals, etc.

If you get approval for your insurance to cover, there still may be high copays (e.g 150/month or something like that). But you can get copay assistance through the drug company that will cover all or most of that. Depending on which brand GH you get (which depends on availability and drug formularies) the manufacturer has a program through which anyone with private insurance (ie not Medicaid) can get copay assistance approved for 12 months--in one simple phone call.

If you are in the tri state area can you post your endocrinologist’s name?
Does anyone have a recommendation for an endo that they’re happy with?

Revisiting this as it's open enrollment. All health insurances that are applicable to us have a high deductible and high max out of pocket. What am I missing here?? Even if my insurance covers it, I am still slapped with a $7,500 charge.

They typically give you a range of predicted height. My son was given a range of 5-4 to 5-8 I believe. The dr said was up to us to decide. We skipped the gh. He is now 5-8. He had his growth spurt way later than most kids so I think these numbers don’t take that into account.

The range I was given based on his growth pattern and bone age is 5'4". So I believe my dr will prescribe growth hormones even if he isn't deficient. I would love to hear what others do in terms of their deductibles. Do you just pay $7,500 a year? I guess that's better than 30k a month, but still...
