Are you sure it's reflux?

We had a wild ride with two of my kids - both diagnosed with reflux and neither actually had it...
First one had a swallowing issue along with some allergies/sensitivities. After a few months and B"H some amazing specialists we put him on a half dose of a bottle thickener and alimentum and he went from a screaming baby who hardly slept to the happiest angel you've ever met.

Second one had allergies and the reflux meds did help suppress the symptoms but not completely. Once we figured out what the allergies were and I went off of those foods we took him off the medicine and he was totally fine.

The GI we saw with my first who ultimately diagnosed the problem correctly said there are so many babies diagnosed with reflux who don't actually have it - it's the doctors' "go to thing"... our pediatrician was away for a month when we were dealing with it and the PAs and other doctors in the practice were so fed up with me begging for allergy and GI referrals - they were convinced I was a crazy mother who just couldn't live with the colic diagnosis and just ride it out. B"H I didn't.

If you haven't seen a GI yet I would highly recommend it. There are tests they can do to see if it is really reflux and if your baby's swallowing properly (when we did this it was clear my baby did not have reflux but the swallowing issue didn't present at the time of the test. The GI was willing to trial the thickener anyway and it made a huge difference). If all of that is good an allergist may be helpful to see if it's a food reaction.

Happy to answer any questions if I can help! Hope you find the solution and can get the rest you both need very soon!!!
