I really do it when I'm talking to my children, the little ones, not the big ones. When I notice that I spoke in third person, I correct myself and say, I.
I can't be the only one, anybody else talk in the third person?
Yes, I know the Seinfeld reference here.

I don't do this, I don't think I ever really did. However, my DMIL does this all the time with my kids (who are 9, 10, and 12), and it drives me crazy!! It's this really high pitched "Grandma came to see you", "Grandma's going to do this...", etc.
I mean, I guess I didn't notice it that much when they were babies, but now?!?!? UGH!!!

I think it's a normal way to talk to babies and young toddlers who have trouble understanding pronouns (You're you and I'm I? So how come you keep calling me "you" and keep calling yourself "I"? HUH?!?!) and the trick is to notice when they've outgrown it! Here's a trick to be able to tell: If you find yourself saying, "Mommy's just going to put this gift for your wife down over here," it's gone too far!

I do it all the time! I used to work in an office where if anyone was talking in 3rd person you stayed away from - they were in a BAD mood

I talk in 3rd person and I can't get my kids back to normal now!
My 4 year old gets pronouns, but my 2 year old doesn't, so just as they do EVERYTHING together, they both call themselves in third person, speak baby words, etc. UGH!

Lady Godiva only talks in third person when she overhears a conversation about herself.

I wasn't thinking of 3rd person in terms of Seinfeld...I seem to recall that Al Franken observed (way back in the 90s when Clinton ran against Bob Dole) that both Nixon and Bob Dole were fond of speaking in the third person. "Bob Dole will not raise taxes....Bob Dole will solve the world's problems."
So in our family, when one of us would speak of ourselves in the third person, we'd nickname them "Bob Dole."
I do a "Bob Dole" when dealing with kibbud Em issues. "Don't speak to your Ima that way." So it doesn't sound merely personal...
