Help! Quick!
I bought mushrooms last week and still haven't used them I'm making an almost vegetarian chollent (just threw in one hot dog, oh - and a marrow bone). It's mostly potatoes, barley, brown rice, quinua, red lentils, onion, garlic, spices... I have no idea if mushrooms would work or not. Anyone ever tried it?
Thanks!

Don't do it! I was told that mushrooms do not do well in the crockpot too long.

I always put mushrooms in my cholent. Sauté first. Mushrooms have a meaty flavor & go great in cholent .

So how did it go? I also had mushrooms that were soon going off, and just peeled them, sprayed with some olive oil and spices and roasted. They were so yum, I started picking at them and there weren't enough left for a side dish for Friday night, so I did the same to frozen green beans and frozen brocolli, and then just mixed all 3 veg together.

For some reasons, a friend of mine reckoned that mushrooms are very controversial. She might have been joking, perhaps many people don't like them. Anyway, I do and I always put them in my cholent unless I'm having a guest who specifically doesn't like them.
Also I prefer to used tinned rather than fresh with the mushrooms in the crockpot, they do much better when being cooked for a long time.

So I chickened out and left them out of the cholent after all. But I wasn't even thinking about sauteing them before adding them. If I'm tempted to try again I'll def saute them first! Thanks for the responses, ladies!

I never do, but this week I did because I had some leftover from the recipe. I always thought cholent was the type of food that anything goes.
