I want to do a desert theme for Purim, as in Sonaran/Mohave Desert in the US. I have a specific reason for doing so, which I do not want to go into at the moment.

I bought a saguaro cactus cookie cutter, so that's simple.

I found cactus shot glasses online, so I want to talk DH into making tequila jello shots (for adults only).

Something made with agave (ideas?)

I can get cactus pads in an ethnic grocery. What can I make with that?

There are a lot of prickly pear type cacti in the region, so I was thinking of making something with sabras, which is close enough to the fruit. Any recipes?

I need a container to put the m"m in. I don't want to spend much, so a gift bag or cardboard box would be preferable. I'm having trouble finding something suitable online. Can someone please advise me where to look?

TIA!

OP here.

DH nixed the jello shots. He's right - most of our recipients wouldn't touch them.

I forgot to mention that we want to make something with yucca, chips perhaps?

Sand pails are pretty cheap:

You can make cakes, frost them, and pour on crushed vanilla cookies to look like sand. And it will taste good too.
You can wrap the pan (with lid) in cellophane withe the other things on top, the cake will be the base.

Thanks, everyone.

The thing is that the Sonoran Desert is not actually sandy. That was a surprise for me. It's covered with vegetation of all kinds.

Hmmm....and I really liked my idea Smile

After a quick google, (just because I was curious what a non-sandy desert looks like) it looks like it is sandy but with cacti etc on it. Maybe you could still use the cake as the base and the other things you mentioned on top (wrapped separately)?
