PUT HER ON STEROIDS!!! It's not worth the chance. Really.
I am very natural minded but when it comes to breathing, it really isn't worth the risk. If a child ends up hospitalized bec of breathing issues, the first thing they do is pump them with mega-doses of steroids. It's a lot less harmful to the body to give oral or nebulize steroids now and avoid hospitalization. BTDT.

You can try overall to strengthen the immune system by giving probiotics and eating a sugar free and clean unprocessed diet. Remove environmenatal allergens and chemicals from your home. Eliminate dairy products. Delay vaccinations for now and do not vaccinate in winter when child is more susceptible.
Beezras Hashem with time and a strong immune system, your dc will outgrow it! You can try seeing a trained homeopath as well.
For the time being, if the child is wheezing, the child will need medical attention.

I have a son with very well controlled asthma allergies etc. very rarely we have had to turn to steroids.
what I have learned for sure that I MUST make sure he drinks a LOT.
his fluid intake really makes a difference. he still has had bad days but I think less often for sure when he drank enough

Jade amother, all those suggestions are good and may very well be helpful to OP's child. However, at this point, the child being in the state that she is in, if the doctor prescribed steroids, the child should take it.

My child wasn't put on steroids. Yet. But I fear that will happen at the doctors appointment tomorrow. She has been wheezing on and off for a week. I've had to use the inhaler at least twice a day much more on some days. I guess there's nothing natural out there to help with that. Well. I tried.

I said the child should take the medications!
OP, do not give up. You have 2 responses. Ask around for a natural doctor in your area... Treatment would be tailored to your child.

I agree that you don't mess with breathing. But I've had two children who get asthma whenever they get a cold, and in the 4 years that I've been diffusing essential oils at the first hint of coughing and sneezing, no one has needed steriods. We used to be a family who was in and out of the hospital with asthma, so this is nothing short of a miracle.
If a child of mine got to the point where they did need steriods though, I would definitely do it. But there are natural preventative measure you can take.

This is NOT instead of steroids/medication, but to be used in conjunction.
Have your child drink lots and lots of kiwi juice. Just put it in the blender with water. Kiwis are high in vitamin c, very nutritious for the lungs, and said to cure asthma. Also try to stay away from sugar, starches and dairy.

Thanks! She actually started wheezing once, right after eating dairy, so I think she's allergic. Still need to get her tested to ascertain that.

Definitely eliminate triggers as much as possible. Allergy testing is one aspect of that. Your pediatrician can do a quick screening by blood test - not quite as reliable as the allergist but a good place to start especially if it will take time to get to a specialist.

And probiotics to strengthen the overall immune system.

But those are to do when the child is healthy, before anything happens. If she starts having any symptoms at all, do a prophylactic dose of steroid inhaler (ask your doc) - this will help avoid getting to a full episode which would need much worse steroids. I consider it a very worthwhile trade-off for my DD. A week or two of flovent which is an extremely low dose mild steroid when we see the warning signs, and then she doesn't need the nebulizer which is a stronger one and has much more side effects or the hospital stuff which is even worse.

Yes, this. We use Qvar, low dose steroid, with an inhaler at the first signs of asthma attack. BH we haven't needed oral steroids/hospital in a really really long time. Totally worth it, imo.
