Watched the entire thing plus making of.

It was okay. Not great but not terrible.

It's supposed to be in Israel in the next day or two.

Once people have had a chance to see it all, we can tear it apart have a discussion. Very Happy

The actor who plays the rabbi is actually frum. I picked up on it when he said adoshem and then the making of confirmed it.

The accents in the trailer were so off.

I don't like the source material and I'm dreading what they've done with it.

I just started watching. Events are portrayed differently than in the book. Is it supposed to be true or based on true facts?

In the making of they said all the events in Berlin were totally fictional, while the events in Williamsburg were based on true facts.

Accents and costumes are off. Which woman wears her multi strand pearl necklace Sunday morning? Wink

According to the book, she didn't leave from Williamsburg to Berlin while she was still frum and married. So the whole beginning isn't accurate.

and for the record, surala berkowitz's (aka deborah feldman) account in her book had many distortions of facts. I fear the liberties the producer of the film took to bend the truth further and sensationalize the supposed "oppression" orthodox jewish girls face.

How many episodes are there?

Haven't watched it yet; on my bucket list, but just from seeing the trailer, I agree with you the costumes and accents are majorly off.

The clothing is just...wrong. Even some of the beards look fake.

It's on Israeli Netflix already. I'm 3/4 of the way in.
I wasn't too crazy about the book but as a tv show loosely based on the book, it's fine. I dont care one way or another if it's true or not.

I also caught the "adoshem " in the brachot 😊

Asking as someone not terribly familiar with chassidish life:

Do shpitzel families marry into uncovered sheitel families (although it seemed like in the show, Esty’s grandmother and aunt wore bands) ?

Not normally. Usually only if the boy or girl are looking to be different than their family (for example if the boy is considered more “cool”) or if it’s already a complicated shidduch (broken family, medical issues, etc)

Can I use this thread to comment on my observations?

Which self-respecting yungerman holds onto his (new) hat from on top while bending down to look under the bed? LOL
