Looking to move here from Brooklyn. We want space and a yard. What are the neighborhoods? We were told about Scotland hill, nanuet and the birds can someone explain the differences?

The birds are a bit more yeshivish than Scottland Hill and Nanuet which are newer areas.
Nanuet has significantly higher real estate taxes.

Heads up, make sure you can get your kids into school since it's not so easy...

And there isn't transportation to all schools from certain areas.

You need to do a lot more research:
1. Birds- is fancy Hungarian yeshivish for the most part
2. Spring Hill is much simpler, mixed chasidish/yeshivish
3. Scotland hill - think Flatbush
4. Dexter park has many sub neighborhoods.
5. Nanuet is an entirely separate village,
6. I don’t know anything about pearl river
*** I apologize ahead of time to anyone offended by my speedy oversimplified possibility offensive characterization

Pearl River is a more Heimish area branching off of Dexter park. Nanuet is attached to Dexter from the other direction and is more blabatish? It’s a very small area so hard to give it a title but it’s basically nicer houses, daven in the Dexter park shuls.

Nanuet is hard to find but around 1m for 4 bedroom colonial. Further out there are high ranches for less maybe 700/800k. Dexter park I think the pricing is similar. Generally the houses in Dexter are in very bad condition but the taxes are much lower.

Tirtza beer with qrealty knows the area really well and helped us a lot. Sequla I think also from q started the community further out in nanuet and has a shul.

Pearl really ver is more spread out so depending how stuck you are on being walkable and having the neighbors you may be able to do a bit better for your money. It’s a more Heimish area.

Scotland hill is very expensive. People are paying 650k for gut jobs.

There’s also the Pinebrook area . Prices are around 850k- 1 mil depending on size and type. High ranches are less than colonial style homes . Homes are usually purchased within a week or two of being listed . I live in that area and we started receiving phone calls from strangers asking us if we are willing to sell .

I don't agree with this breakdown at all and I live here
Chestnut ridge is all pretty yeshivish, Scotland hill more mild yeshivish for example all the fathers working birds and dexter are pretty extreme yeshivish u won't have many Ysv kids for example, no internet in the home a lot of the fathers r learning/klei kodesh, I think birds is more yeshivish than dexter park
Nanuet is a newish area but seems to be spin off of dexter park type Ppl
Spring hill mostly chassidish

All the home r upwards of 800k (for 800 u osuld probably get small house that needs work) nanuet cause it's a new area would probably do best for your $ but taxes there r even higher

I agree...
spring hill is definitely NOT mostly chassidish as another poster mentioned....
if anything half and half but I would guess even more litvish....
There are at least three litvish shuls and only one chassidish one (that I know of...)
