What would be a good place to live (US) for a divorced single mom. Early thirties, two small children. Low income. (Morah)

No extended family .

Don’t want to be completely shunned by my neighbors .
JPF.

Rochester NY
Low cost housing, in NYS so all the perks of that (health insurance, childcare subsidy), low tuition program

The community is extremely warm, friendly and welcoming amd you'd definitely not be the only single mom there

Chicago has a lot of single mothers and people are really friendly. We treat Morah’s really well. The turnover rate is super low and the tuition breaks are great.

Brooklyn (Flatbush/marine park). Tuition and food is cheap, jobs are plentiful, the schools are fantastic, it’s easy to get around even without car, there are lots of assistance programs even not for low income like UPK, any therapies your kids need etc. Jobs are abundant with generally good pay. The crowd is a beautiful mix, mostly JPF, it’s not the Flatbush of yesteryear, the young crowd is basically an OOT vibe practically. Housing is the only large expense but you can get usually get reasonable rent.

I agree with this. Although the price of living here is not low. But look into it. I usually don’t jump to recommended Baltimore but in your case I do suggest looking into it.
You will not be shunned here.
