I know this is “highly important”, but I’m curious. I often see posts using the slang “ain’t”. Is this phrase still regularly used in mainstream English-speaking societies? I know many people from Brooklyn and no one I know from the past couple of generations has that strong of a Brooklyn accent.

Huh. Mine went to "Ain't gonna work on Saturday."

Me too.
But sure I'll use it as slang in written form sometimes. Spoken, not so much.

Not p.c. alert.
I would think it's used in conversations also using the word "aksed"

I have never used it, I think it might be more of a regional thing.

It ain't gonna rain no more,
It ain't gonna rain no more,
How the heck can I wash my neck,
If it ain't gonna rain no moooore....!
I use it when I'm making jokes or want to emphasize something, but only within the family or with friends. English is not my mother tongue, by the way.

"Ain't" ain't a word, 'cause it ain't in the dictionary.
Or as the song I was listening to at the gym this morning goes:
Quote: | I get up in the evening
And I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man, I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help |
I'm sure I occasionally use "ain't" when speaking informally, but I don't really notice it.

Only to emphasize a point with a brief folksy effect, or if I’m doing a humorous impression of someone. .

I am friends with this guy who always uses the word aksed and I always tease him about it. He’s not Jewish though. Never heard a Jew say aksed. But I don’t remember noticing him using the word ain’t.
I will definitely use the word in certain situations. Like when I tell my kids I ain’t their slaves. I can’t see myself writing the word though.

I rarely say it, but when I do, it's for a joke. If I say it to my younger kids, I quickly change it because I don't want them to think it's proper especially since most conversational english they learn from me.
