Teachers handed out "dittos" from the "ditto machine". I still use that word and laugh when people say "ditto" when they have no idea where that came from!

My mom would sew shoulder pads into the dresses and blouses that didn't come with them.

Freddy Krueger- still the scariest character from a horror movie of all time. (The original films, I haven't seen the newer ones.)

Stiff Stuff. That stuff was water repellent, and made Aqua Net look like light hold mousse.
Women would wear floppy ties with their shirts and boxy suits.

My sisters spent an hour in front of the mirror trying to tease those bangs

Making sure we have change when we go out, so we can get in touch with my parents. |
In the 90s my father still had a station wagon and in the 2000s he could fit double digit children into it!

It doesn't.
DITTO comes from the Tuscan language, where it is the past participle of the verb dire (to say), with the meaning of "said", as in the locution "the said story". The first recorded use of ditto with this meaning in English occurs in 1625. You can find it used by Dickens, by Louisa May Alcott, by Melville, by Charlotte Bronte.
The maker of the Ditto brand machine probably picked up on that. Making duplicates. Ditto.

Also feeling jealous of the kids who got to eat the cool looking non-kosher candies, and breakfast cereals with the marshmallows! Honeycomb and Tangy Taffy were good too, though.

I remember the material from the roof of the station wagons always coming down, and my parents stapled it up.

- "My mother isn't home, can I take a message?" and not "maybe try her cell"
- Kids entertained themselves. It wasn't the parents job.
- Getting lost and rolling down your window to ask the car next to you for directions. Or if you were super well-prepared, looking at a map. An actual paper map.

Sun in
legwarmers not for exercise and slouch socks
jellies shoes
trapper keepers - so cool
transformers
real seesaws that you could make the other person fly off of
metal slides that burned your legs
(how did we survive?)
swatch watches - super cool
valley girl talk - gag me with a spoon, grody, chill pill
sweet valley high girls series and the kosher version BY High Times with the same type of cover
the countdown thing at the start of every film in school
slides instead of film. Holding them up to the light to see yourself upside down and wrong colors
And the machine that you slotted the slides into and then hooked up to a projector to see them on the wall
This is so much fun! Thank you OP for starting it!
Are the young uns wondering what these things even are lol? Ask your mom!
