has anyone seen the book by this title? it's a non-fiction book by a satmar chassidiste, "malka zipora." I just found it in the library, it's a collection of essays written about her family life.

I don't think you'll find any "chiddushim" in the book, but some of the stories are rather sweet. one thing that was precious was about how her father, a holocaust survivor, traded bread rations for sugar on pesach, and basically lived on the sugar. oy aibeshter, what your children do for you...

The name of the book makes it sound like she had a bad life and wants to laugh about it. Is that the point?

no, it's totally not about hardships at all. it's about her experiences raising a chassidisher family. she just happened to mention her father as a part of her background. it's actually a collection of essays that she wrote that is now in book format.

Right, but why the title? Wouldn't everyone rather laugh than cry? Is there a reason why one would think to choose between those two options? Or is the title just to tell everyone that it's a humor book and not a tear jerker?

I have no idea why she chose the title ... I just checked out the book from the library!

Just thought you might know since you read the book. Usually the title is reflective of the content.

it's a picture of - I'm assuming - her, sitting on her couch looking out the curtained windows. she's wearing a turban and it's sort of a profile shot.

you know it's interesting, I clicked on that amazon link and on that book, the name "ziporah" is spelled with an "h" but on the book that I checked out from the library, it's spelled "zipora."
that's kinda weird/funny, nu?

Is the one from the library hardback or paper?
Maybe they misspelled it and then corrected it in a later version.

it's a paperback, but the back cover says it's a pseudonym anyway.
