I think many times complicated people with issues are attracted to the upbeat cheerful ones because they are lacking that lightness, positivity, and warmth in their lives.
So I actually think being the upbeat positive one can also backfire.

Similar. I have an easygoing, happy disposition. My husband has a mental health condition that strains our marriage in some ways. I'm not unhappy, but I wouldn't say my marriage is happier than most. I make a life for myself.
