The increasing attacks on freedom in NY has me thinking of leaving. Ideally to Israel but not sure if that’s feasible. Fellow imas outside NY, do you also feel worried about the direction of the US? Maybe it feels more intense in NY, trying to gauge what it’s like overall. If you left NY or thinking about it, where did/would you go? Why there specifically?

We are looking to move to either Teaneck or Silver Spring. Not for any of the reasons you mentioned and I don’t feel my freedoms are under attack.

I do not feel like my freedom in NY is under attack, too much social media and fear mongering, relax.

All of those "freedoms" have much more severe countermeasures in Israel. You are talking about moving to a socialist(scary I know) state which is invariably in a state of war, has an active draft, and has every single detail on every citizen of its country, down to cell phone numbers. Executive power acts are laughable compared to what Israel can do in case of, say, a suspected terror attack, or to get millions of vaccines rolled out in just a matter of weeks. Imho that's what makes Isreal great. But if it's "freedom" that you seek look else wear. Also. Relax. Learn some history. And stop believing everything you read. If you do decide to move, I hope it goes really smoothly for you!

Not fear mongering at all. Constant threats to shut down yeshivas, etc. and yes the new bill is horrifying. If it passes, I'm very seriously planning to get out of this state. FYI a similar bill was proposed in 2015. It's only a matter of time before the education issues or a bill like this becomes reality.

Israel's got plenty of problems, yes. But at the end of the day it's the Jewish homeland and it's not about to turn against the Jews.

I completely agree with you OP. I think it will spread throughout the US, though start in NY/CA. I recently read Cynical Theories by Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsey. Then I read The Ominous Parallels by Leonard Peikoff. Those books together paint a scary picture of the future. We are making Aliyah.

I looked them up.

I don’t have a problem with any of these, and I don’t think they impinge upon my freedom. Are you against all traffic laws and/or any public health and safety regulations?

Honestly I don’t think we’re at a point where we need to flee NY, but if I would want to move, I’d go to Switzerland or some other neutral country.

Yes I am planning to leave NY. I am going to Cleveland IYH, posted about it on another thread. My husband us very nervous about the state of America honestly though. I don't think that EY is any better in that regard and might be worse at the moment.

California. Better weather and better jobs. I support public health measures though, and value saving human lives over a nebulous idea of “freedom.”

I was also thinking LA, but isn't the cost of living in California very high?
