No! They ask you to throw out diapers yourself in the bathroom.
I wouldn't want to touch someone else's diaper even if it's wrapped

If she went around collecting trash and she took the diaper without saying anything, then that's ok. She should've had a bag when collecting trash. You didn't do anything wrong. She went around collecting trash and diapers are trash, as well as used tissues, food wrappers, bags....

I tried handing the flight attendant a wrapped diaper once when she was collecting trash and she handed it back and told me to put it in the bathroom garbage.

You are not supposed to change diapers at your seat. Only the bathroom

Thank you!
First timer so I wanted to know what's going on
I think in my case I could've been more aware and flight attendant was wrong in reaction.
Now I know. Thank you all!

OP is this a joke? That's disgusting, no, you should never hand that to a flight attendant unless it's in a bag and further you shouldn't be changing diapers anywhere other than the bathroom.

Bottlebrush and Dustypink there's no need to be rude and hurtful.
I'm new to this and don't know. I'm trying to do the right thing and find out.

Bare in mind that I didn't not share the interaction I had with flight attendant.
I was just asking what the expectation should be.

I appreciate the responses that were helpful.

Chill, why the need for rudeness? I always see people changing a wet diaper at their seat, especially if there's a line to the bathroom.
OP said it's the first time she flew with a baby. Instead of shaming her and tearing her apart, why can't you answer her like a mentch? It doesn't take anything.

Maybe (?) if you yourself deposited it in the trash bag she was holding that would be okay. But don't hand it to her and expect her to touch it.

Best to throw it in the bathroom trash.

I'm not looking to be right or wrong, I just want to know what's socially acceptable and some posters have been helpful without being rude.

I’ve done it with a wet diaper- there was lots of turbulence and they didn’t let us get up, so I changed the diaper at my seat and placed it in a barf bag and gave it to the FA when they came around.

If she was upset she had right to be. It’s extremely unsanitary to hand the FA a diaper, even wrapped. They are handing out food and drinks to the whole plane, if they are also touching diapers potentially you could cause them to get the whole plane sick. It’s a serious sanitary issue, not just tacky, to hand them a diaper.
