Eliyahu

ETA I see you changed the title for the birth certificate... I don't know of any great alternatives, I would honestly do Pinchas but that's just me

I knew a Pinchas who, for business purposes, was known as Mr Pink. That's not much use until he's older, though.

Pini is a common abbreviation.

How is Eliyahu or Aharon more appropriate for a birth certificate?

Phineas is the Greek version. Although I gave my kids their Hebrew names on their birth certificates. If you're looking for an English name with the letter P maybe Paul? Peter? Patrick?

Yes sorry about the title change, I realized it wasn't clear. I wanted something easier for my kid for birth certificate and legal stuff.

Definitely wouldn't do any of these for a Jewish boy. I think just stick with Pinchas. Ur Pincus like another poster said, if it really bothers you how some people might pronounce the ch

Penn

-

I’m generally a fan of Jewish name unchanged on the birth certificate.

Why do you want to use a different name?
- To make it easier for nonJews to pronounce? (So a less phonetically-complex, but still uncommon Hebrew name could work)
- to have a secular name to use at doctors appointments, the workplace, etc.? (So a name that would fit in easily in secular society? So only Hebrew names like David or Ben?)

Peter and Paul were the two biggest apostles of J C.
Patrick isn’t exactly a heimish name either. There was a Saint Patrick, but I’d go with that over Peter or Paul.
Op has to make a connection she likes.
I think there’s something about Phineas that would look good when he becomes a doctor or a lawyer and hangs out his shingle, but that’s just me Smile

So far I like Phineas and Pini. I'd do Penn if it wasn't so waspy. Do you think Pini is too nickname-ish for a birth certificate? I just want something that doesn't have the ch sound. I have the ch sound in my name and don't like it.
