Yes, but I always trip up on Wocestershire. There's a reason it has that reputation

Yup
But now that I’m thinking about it maybe I’ve been pronouncing paragon wrong all the time? Cuz it reads smoothly to me
ETA nope looks like I was right, it’s not such a difficult word

Bahahaha yes. Although in our household we deliberately sound out 'Wocestershire', because I find it hilarious (and it's a leftover habit from WAY too many childhood spelling bees).

I am an elementary school teacher.
I have definitely used the words onomatopoeia and mnemonic this year. I probably also write them on the board. But thanks to this thread, I will bli neder make sure to write them on the board next time I use them!

OP thanks for this post!
Shows me how much I still have to learn.
I was only familiar with 3 words.
The other words I didn't even know what they mean.

I always "read" one particular word wrong in my head, and whenever I try to spell it or think of it, I first think of the wrong pronunciation and then correct it to the right one.
The word is: awry (My brain always goes aw-ree, I mean, a-rye)

I can pronounce the words, and one will never leave me because it was the word I lost the 8th grade county spelling bee because of.

I'm a good speller, because I read a lot. But this thread just showed me that I don't know how to pronounce many words..
I don't watch English movies or listen to English radios, so I don't 'hear' the words..
I see it, learn the meaning of the word, but I pronounce it the way they're spelled
